So the useful question is:

What does this conversation need me to share, and what can wait?

A mutual NDA can create a sensible boundary around those early discussions. Not to lock an idea away, but to give people enough confidence to explore the opportunity without releasing information indiscriminately.

And once those conversations begin, other questions naturally follow.

IP Matters.

What have we actually created that may carry value?

Pragmatism Matters.

What needs attention now, and what is better left until the opportunity is clearer?

Layers Matter.

Could confidentiality, trade marks, registered designs, patents and good control of information each play a different role as the idea develops?

And later comes Grammar Matters.

Because even the name given to an idea can become valuable as the idea becomes a product and the product becomes a brand.
